Questions From a Newbie on NT
dp dpat...@home.com alt steinberg cubase David, I've seen several posts from guys here doing dual-boot OS's. You might check into Win98 lite for you "music" for Cubase/other audio apps, either as a separate partition or on a completely separate HD, in order to keep that OS as clean as possible for audio use.

lilo (linux only hd -> dos only hd), no solution possible?

My drive is already partitioned (I prefer to keep 512mb PC133 RAM 80gb Maxtor IDE hd Acer 8x4x32 CD-R Toshiba sd-m1502 16x DVD-ROM (I think it's 16x) USB Zip drive Nvidia Geforce2MX Agp w/ 32mb Creative Labs

RH7.2 on abitKA7 w/700 MHz Athlon is extremely slow
How about if i install RH7 in a separate HD? You think this will simplify everything? You see im planning to add another physical HD, probably a 15 or 20 gig drive. I think this approach will not complicate stuffs. Is it possible to have a triple boot machine? Can LILO handle this? Thnks again.

Better choice, SCSI or UDMA?? Please advise
However it did change all the drive letters, but I think that is a separate issue, Changed the system C to D which is a bummer, can change E to I back where they were, but not the system disk! I have Win98 installed on my only HD (FAT32) and I'd really like to install win2k on it and dual boot to the same hd.

Help w/ installing 2nd HD
Hi, I have NT4 w/s installed on my primary master, first partition and then used partition magic to create & make active a second PRIMARY partition on the same HD, which I then installed Win98 onto. I thought I would be able to dual boot by just making the first (NT) partition active again and amending the boot.ini

REQ: My XP no longer will boot up!
The first partition on your second HD would be rdisk(1)partition(1), but WinME is not located by this reference. The last line in C:\boot.ini should be: C:\="Microsoft cameras, etc., further out in the alphabet (S:, V:, W:, etc.) to avoid having to change HD volume letters when something gets added or removed.

Potential problems adding \WFWG & SYSTEM to W98 Path
HTM It's big brother BootIt NG costs twice as much but it provides excellent partitioning tools, backup directly to CD-R or CD-R/W and is a solid boot manager. Trying to set up my computer, I can't get it to recognize my win98se install on a separate drive. If anyone with a similar working configuration could

Will Gregg and Monica's computer support Debian?
You could format your drive as FAT32, install 98 then install 2000 which will create a dual boot. If security of NTFS is needed you'll need a program such as the installed operating systems include Windows 2000 and any other operating system, you MUST place Windows 2000 in a separate partition on the computer.

Add new HD & back up main drive
1. you can have two drives and dual boot between them (ie win98 on each drive, one with studio stuff only, the other for household stuff) and a boot manager like 2. you can use the separate drive as a "tape reel". you could make a folder for each project, and save the song/midi file and audio wav stuff here,

addition, I'm thinking of installing 2 separate Win95's on my system, so that I can keep one "clean" and fast. Is this a good/bad idea? want to keep on your 'clean' copy, it's going to slow down anyway, and you'll have all the messing about getting a dual boot, and installing applications twice, and so on.

"Exception 0E at 0028:C0004D74" and Win2K Question
I am currently running Windows ME on a Dell System, 256 MB RAM, 850 Mhz, and 2 separate hard drives, not 1 partitioned drive. Want to dual boot 95 SE and 98 SE. HOW?
Any particular problem with this setup for dual-boot? Grub will be installed to the MBR on the SATA array, with grub.conf going into the grub subdirectory of a separate /boot partition on the parallel IDE drive. (If you reply, please do NOT refer me the the now-ancient dual-boot Mini-HOWTOs and the like.

New Hard Drive w/ XP & ME Partition
I installed W98 on a separate 8GB FAT32 partition and maintained some dual-boot capability. I had difficulty running the WfWG installed MS Excel and Word applications under W98, until I appended C:\W (the WfWG directory) & C:\W\SYSTEM to the D:\W98;D:\W98\SYSTEM path in order for the Excel & Word DLL's to be found.

Bug w/ chkdsk-no help-ya'll stupid or stumped?
The MS boot loader is FREE and installs automatically if you install a new (NT-based, eg, NT, W2K, WinXP) OS to a hard drive w/ an existing OS. You can also use a freeware solution like XOSL ( http://www.xosl.org ), but this will require a separate partition manager like Ranish ( http://www.ranish.com/part/

'OS must be installed on a separate volume' ?
Here's how (btw, there are lots of ways to setup your system, you could just as easily dual-boot) the old and new.
